Get your poke fix at Cox Bay
Fact: great things come from Hawaii. Surfing originated there, and so did poke bowls. Maybe that’s why the two go super well together. After a solid surf session, get wholesome protein, fruit and veg, and of course carbs — all steps from the beach (and your campsite). Of course, you don’t need to surf to enjoy. You also don’t need to be a Surf Grove guest. Visitors are welcome — just be sure to park in public parking on Maltby Road and walk on in.

A five-star food truck
Ukee Poke has been a five-star favourite since it opened at the Junction on Highway 4, so we were pretty thrilled when they decided to turn an old milk truck into a satellite location and park it right here on our property. We recommend a poke bowl with local salmon, but if you’re not in the mood for fish, you’ll also find specialty coffee, smoothies and snacks. Their ethos: food that makes you feel good.

Hawaii meets Japan meets Peru, here in Tofino
Fun fact: poke came into being in ancient Hawaii, well before contact with explorers and settlers. In the dish’s early days, fishermen cut up raw fish and seasoned it with seasalt and seaweed. The name “poke” means “to slice or cut crosswise” in Hawaiian language. Over time, the dish evolved with influences from immigrants, particularly Japanese, who added ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil — and the rice base we’re accustomed to. Ukee Poke’s founder, David, also infuses influences from his native country, Peru. In other words, poke bowls are about as Pacific as a dish can be.
