We don’t say “camping, elevated” for nothing. Our cedar barrel saunas bring a new level of relaxation to camping at Cox Bay. Maybe you’re exhausted after a long travel day. Perhaps the day’s adventures left you a bit stiff. Or you just need some peace and quiet after a little too much fun. Whatever your reasons for stepping into a sauna, we can pretty much guarantee you’ll step out feeling relaxed, restored—and ready for more adventure.
Cedar Sauna Therapy
A Cedar Sauna, Just For You
Our sauna sessions are always private—just you and up to five of your loved ones. The minimum rental is one hour ($100). Other options: 2.5 hours ($200) or eight hours ($600).
Outside the sauna is a picnic table, fire pit, and rain shower—all yours to use for the duration of your session.
Traditionally, sauna sessions consist of multiple intervals of hot and cold, with a warm rest between each cycle. After sitting in the heat of your sauna, we recommend a cold shower—or, if you’re feeling brave, a dip in the Pacific. Then, before starting a new cycle, take a moment to rest in the warmth of your sauna’s sitting room or next to a crackling fire.
Reserve your session with our guest services team upon arrival, or up to two weeks before your stay by emailing info@surfgrove.com. Or if you need more convincing, read on for the proven benefits of sauna time. Don’t take our word for it—it’s science.
Saunas Are Good For You
Although barrel saunas are new at Surf Grove, they’ve been around for ages. In fact, people have been enjoying their therapeutic benefits for thousands of years.
Modern science backs up what tradition has always known: regular sauna bathing supports cardiovascular health by improving circulation and lowering blood pressure. Heat stimulates sweating, helping the body release toxins, and triggers endorphin release — the same “feel-good” chemicals you get from surfing and cycling and other exercise. Sauna time can also ease sore muscles, improve joint flexibility, and promote deeper, more restorative sleep.

About Our Saunas
Our One Of A Kind barrel saunas are made right here on Vancouver Island. Most importantly, they’re crafted from western red knotty cedar, which has additional benefits. Naturally rich in aromatic oils, red cedar calms the nervous system and evokes a sense of connection to the natural world. And did we mention the window looking out into rich rainforest?
Our saunas are Finnish style, combining an electric coil heater and hot stones to maintain consistent heat without any hassle or fuss. Just sit back, settle in, and sweat it out.
