Getting Here & Getting Around

How do I get to Surf Grove?

Our address is 1451 Pacific Rim Highway, but you’ll enter the campground from Maltby Road. Driving towards Tofino, we’re on the left after you leave the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, but before you get into town. Turn left onto Maltby Road (also the road for the Cox Bay public parking lot), and we’ll be on your right.

If you reach the visitors centre (on the right), you’ve gone too far. Feel free to call us at 250-725-2750 if you need any help along the way!

How do I get to Tofino?

Most people drive in via Highway 4. Please note that this highway is pretty narrow and windy (and has been under construction of late) so leave yourself plenty of time and enjoy the drive. It’s beautiful. There are also flights into Tofino via Pacific Coastal.

How far is Surf Grove from Tofino?

We’re 7 kilometres from the centre of Tofino.

How do I get around in Tofino if I don’t want to drive?

A few ways. In the summer, there’s a free shuttle from just outside our gate. There’s also Tikibus (text or call 1-250-266-1521 for service), Whistle (Tofino’s own Uber!), and taxi service (call 250-725-3333). There’s also a great bike path; we’re about 20 minutes away from town by bike. If you need to rent a bicycle, you can do so here (they’ll even deliver your bike to your campsite!).

Policies & Rules

What’s your cancellation policy?

Any cancellations received within 7 days of the scheduled arrival  will result in a forfeiture of your entire payment. Cancellations received before this 7 day period are subject to a $35 cancellation fee, the remainder is to be refunded to the credit card on file.

Any no shows or unscheduled departures will be responsible for the full amount of their reservation.

Cancellations will be accepted only by email or online. No cancellations will be received over the phone.

What if I arrive after your office is closed? Do you do late check-in?

Sure, we can arrange a late check-in. We’ll leave a package at the office for your arrival. If you need to reach someone, there is always an on-call staff member, who can be reached at (250) 725-2750.

Can we collect firewood from the forest?

No. Please do not take any wood from the forest, as our ecosystem can not support it. Firewood can be purchased at Guest Services.

Can we use generators?

All our sites are fully serviced, including 30 amp electrical. If needed, generators can be used only between the hours of 9am and 9pm.

Is Surf Grove pet friendly?

Of course! We love pets. There is a $20 fee per pet with a limit of 2 pets per campsite.

Is there a minimum night stay?

In the designated high season (June through September), we have a 3 night minimum for reservations made in advance.

Can I tent in an RV site?

You can—but please note that you’ll be paying for a fully-serviced RV site. But we’re working on introducing tent sites. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when the tent sites are ready to go.

Are fires allowed on Cox Bay?

Unfortunately, no. We love a beach fire too, but because the fire department can’t get direct access to the beach, bylaw prohibits fires at Cox Bay. You can have fires in your site, or on nearby Chesterman Beach and Mackenzie Beach.

Can I use my drone?

No. Local bylaws prohibit use of drones in the area.

How about fireworks? Are they allowed?

No, fireworks are prohibited unless you have a fireworks license.

Features & Amenities

Are there showers?

Yes! We have state-of-the art bathroom facilities and showers. Soap and towels are not supplied.

Do you provide Wifi?

We do. Wifi is included for our guests throughout the campground (but we sincerely hope you’re too busy having fun to even think about using it).

Is there a restaurant onsite?

There is no restaurant onsite, however there is a small general store with many camping essentials. There is a restaurant immediately next door to the campground, The Great Room at Long Beach Lodge, as well as the Surfside Grill about a three-minute walk down the beach. There are also a number of terrific restaurants in Tofino. Check our recommendations here.

Is there a grocery store nearby? How about a liquor store?

On site we have a small general store. For a more diverse selection of groceries we would recommend the Coop in Tofino, or Beaches Grocery. Alcohol can be purchased in town at the BC Liquor Store at 328 Neill Street.

What size is your utility connections?

All of our sewer connections are 10.16 cm (4-inch) inlets, our power connections are set for 30 amp RV plug-ins and our water connections are standard, 1/2 inch hose hook-ups.

Other Questions

What’s the wildlife situation? Specifically, what about bears?

One of the many beauties of Tofino is that there’s an abundance of wildlife in the area. That includes black bears. And because “a fed bear is a dead bear,” all food must be packed away properly, and all sites must be kept clean, in order to protect local wildlife.

What temperature is the ocean?

We’re not going to lie. It’s cold: 7-14 degrees Celsius (or 45-57 degrees Fahrenheit). Welp. It is swimmable for the bravest among us, but we highly recommend a wetsuit.
